Erik is one of the founding members of The Therapy Network. As a native from The Netherlands he moved to the United States in 1987 and started his career at Mercy Hospital in Des Moines, IA. After receiving his Manual Therapy Certification in 1989 under world renowned Stanley Paris, PhD, P.T. he relocated to Virginia Beach, VA, to become the clinical program director of a physical therapy clinic. In 1991 he started at Ghent Physical Therapy which later became part of The Therapy Network. He holds a teaching position in the Doctorate Physical Therapy program at Old Dominion University in Norfolk, VA since 1995 and is an APTA certified clinical instructor. Erik initiated and developed the sports medicine program for the first semi-pro soccer team in Hampton Roads (the Hurricanes).

In 2006, Erik became one of the first three physical therapists in the United States to complete the Travell seminar program in Bethesda, MD and completed Dr. Chan Gunn’s IMS Certification in Vancouver, BC. Both are myofascial and needling programs. He is currently on teaching faculty and a certification examiner with Myopain Seminars.

As a promoter of the art and science of manual therapy as a specialty within physical therapy, he is passionate about teaching and presenting a variety of topics to his patients, the medical community and the public. He devotes much time and effort to continuing education and takes several courses each year in the USA and abroad. Because Erik is always looking for new and better ways to treat patients, he remains on the forefront of utilizing new treatment approaches and techniques. He is active in national and international organizations of manual therapy. Erik’s subspecialties within physical therapy are manual therapy, the treatment of pain and dysfunction of myofascial origin, and sports medicine. He is particularly interested in the many and diverse head and neck manifestations of myofascial dysfunctions of the head, neck, and shoulder musculature. Erik is the clinic director of TTN’s Kempsville clinic in Virginia Beach, Va. He continues to see patients on a full time basis.

Peter is one of the founders of The Therapy Network. Peter is a transplant from New England, born in the smallest state in the union (Rhode Island). Peter and his wife, Deborah, relocated to Virginia after graduating from college. Industrial rehabilitation has always been his special interest. He was the program coordinator for the first CARF (Commission of Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities) accredited work hardening program in Tidewater. Peter has participated in the University of Michigan’s summer engineering program for ergonomics, as well as numerous courses in industrial rehabilitation. Peter is recognized as an expert witness and has testified in most of the local municipalities. Peter has always had an attraction to the ocean and water in general. If he is not working, you can find him yelling for his kids on the sidelines or out on the bay.
