Erik Wijtmans

Erik is one of the founding members of The Therapy Network. A native of the Netherlands, Erik moved to the U.S.A. after graduating from Physical Therapy school in 1987, and worked as a staff physical therapist at Mercy Hospital in Des Moines, IA. Erik earned his Manual Therapy certification in 1989 from Stanley Paris, PhD, PT. In 1990, Erik moved to Virginia Beach, VA. In 1991, he started at The Therapy Network. Erik initiated and developed the sports medicine program for the Hampton Roads Hurricanes, the first semi-pro soccer team. Additionally, Erik taught for the Doctorate Program in Physical Therapy at Old Dominion University from 1995 until 2017. Erik is one of the first group of three therapists who became certified in dry needling in the USA in 2005 and has been teaching this technique nationally and internationally since 2007. Erik is always looking for new and better ways to treat his patients and is constantly on the forefront of utilizing new treatment approaches and techniques. Erik’s subspecialties in physical therapy are manual therapy (including dry needling), sports medicine, and the treatment of pain and dysfunction of myofascial origin.
