What to Expect with Orthotics
We often receive questions about orthotics. Who needs them? How long will I wear them? How much do they cost?
Orthotics correct a range of foot problems. If your physician or physical therapist diagnosed you with any of the below, orthotics might be part of the solution:
What to Expect with an Orthotics Fitting
Orthotics are custom molded to fit the contours of your foot. They provide a new base or floor for your footsteps. The Therapy Network offers a range of options. Your therapist will thoroughly discuss the options to fit your specific needs.
The cost of orthotics depends on the type purchased. How much do orthotics cost, and will my health insurance cover the cost? We will provide documentation to your insurance carrier, but insurance companies often do not cover the cost.
Remember, you do not need to purchase a separate orthotic device for each pair of shoes in your closet. Orthotics are quickly moved to a different pair of shoes.
How long will I wear orthotics?
Depending on the cause of your foot pain, you may wear orthotics for months to a lifetime. Your TTN physical therapist will discuss the plan that fits your needs.
At first, you will gradually adjust to wearing your custom orthotics by wearing them a few hours a day. Over weeks, you will gradually increase the hours until you feel comfortable wearing them all day.
