Back Pain

80% of Americans Will Experience Back Pain

Over 31 million Americans suffer from back pain annually, making it the leading cause of disability in the U.S. Factors like sedentary lifestyles and sports overexertion contribute to this widespread issue.

Lower back pain is one of the top reasons people visit their primary care doctors and seek physical therapy, with 80% of us experiencing it at some point.

The Therapy Network provides comprehensive treatments to relieve pain and help you return to your normal routine.

Neck Pain

You’re not alone if you suffer from neck pain—over 30% of Americans will experience it this year, with 20-70% finding it disruptive to daily life.

The rise in neck pain is largely due to lifestyle changes. Prolonged smartphone use, poor posture at non-ergonomic desks, and the Work From Home (WFH) trend have all contributed, with many working from couches or dining tables.

The good news? Physical therapy offers effective solutions to relieve neck pain and restore daily function.

Upper Body Pain

Repetitive strain injuries can lead to upper body pain, arthritis, dislocations, and even emotional stress, affecting sleep, work, and daily activities.

Pain may radiate from the jaw, shoulder, elbow, or solar plexus. If rest and anti-inflammatory medications don’t help, it’s time to consider physical therapy.

The Therapy Network’s specialists, are trained in managing upper body pain and helping you regain function and comfort.

Lower Body Pain

Over half of Americans experience lower body pain, including hip, knee, foot, or ankle pain, which can disrupt daily activities, reduce quality of life, and even cause missed workdays.

Whether it’s joint or muscle pain or sports-related injuries, physical therapy offers effective relief and a plan for long-term recovery.

Motor Vehicle Accident

If you’ve been in a motor vehicle accident, seek immediate medical attention for serious injuries.

Each year, over 100,000 MVAs occur in Virginia, leading to a range of injuries—from minor aches to severe conditions like:

  • Traumatic brain injuries and concussions
  • Spinal cord and back injuries
  • Whiplash and neck injuries
  • Fractures and broken bones

These injuries can result in lost workdays, limited mobility, headaches, and chronic pain. Physical therapy can help you recover, restore function, and regain your quality of life.

Pre and Post-Surgery Physical Therapy: What to Expect

If your doctor recommends physical therapy before or after surgery, it’s for good reason. Pre- and post-surgery physical therapy can speed up recovery, improve strength and mobility, reduce pain, and even shorten hospital stays.

Pre-Surgery Physical Therapy (Prehab)

Pre-surgery therapy prepares your body for the upcoming procedure, improving outcomes. Benefits include:

  • Better balance, reducing fall risk
  • Reduced post-surgery pain
  • Shorter hospital stays
  • Improved strength and flexibility around the surgical area
  • A more positive outlook about surgery
  • Setting post-op goals and learning early recovery exercises

Post-Surgery Physical Therapy

After surgery, physical therapy is key to regaining strength and mobility. It may begin in the hospital or shortly after discharge and typically includes:

  • Gentle stretching and flexing exercises
  • Pain management techniques
  • Swelling reduction and scar tissue prevention
  • Strength-building exercises
  • Therapies like ultrasound, electrical stimulation, and manual therapy to promote healing
  • A customized plan with at-home exercises to support your recovery

Physical therapy ensures a smoother, faster return to your normal activities—before and after surgery.

Sports Injury Treatment

Sports injuries can affect athletes of all levels, causing pain and limiting mobility. Common injuries include sprains, strains, swollen muscles, knee injuries, Achilles tendon and foot issues, shin splints, rotator cuff and shoulder injuries, fractures, concussions, dislocations, tennis and golf elbow, and sciatica. At The Therapy Network, our specialists provide personalized treatment plans to reduce pain, restore strength, and improve mobility, helping you return to your sport safely and quickly.

Neurologic Physical Therapy

Neurologic physical therapy focuses on improving mobility and daily function for patients with brain, movement, or vestibular system conditions.

These issues are more common than you might think:

  • Over 42 million Americans have movement disorders
  • 1.6 to 3.8 million experience concussions annually
  • 69 million face vestibular or balance issues in their lifetime

At The Therapy Network, our specialists create personalized treatment plans to help patients manage movement disorders, recover from concussions, and address vestibular or balance challenges.

Total Body Conditions

Physical therapy isn’t just for post-surgery or injury recovery—it also helps manage total body conditions.

You’re not alone if you’re dealing with chronic pain or systemic issues:

  • Over 50 million Americans experience chronic pain annually
  • 3 million osteoporosis cases are diagnosed each year
  • 20% of fibromyalgia patients also have rheumatoid arthritis or lupus

Offering personalized treatment plans to relieve pain and improve mobility for conditions like fibromyalgia, osteoporosis, chronic pain, rheumatic pain, and rheumatoid arthritis across six coastal Virginia locations.

I have been going to TTN for probably 3 months or so now which included pre surgery and post surgery. I have worked primarily with Andrea and Paul although it is clear that everyone in the clinic is standing by ready and willing. You can tell that everyone is happy at their craft and there is a positive, uplifting environment.

Both Andrea and Paul are very thorough, professional and it's obvious that each are totally dedicated to their craft. I'm not sure how this works, but somehow they actually make physical therapy fun! No kidding!

My orthopaedic surgeon had me assigned to another Physical Therapist after my surgery. I went and talked with that firm and told them I preferred to stay with TTN. The lady smiled and said that she's very familiar with TTN and said that I am they are as good as any firm in town.

With my docs permission, I stayed with TTN and I'm glad I did.

I assure you, if you are looking for a great Physical Therapist practice - congratulations, you have found just that!

They have my strongest possible population.

I saw Travis Walke today. He was one of the best Health care providers I ever had. He is caring, patient, supportive, and very understanding. I had a same day appointment and a very good experience. Travis is an asset to the clinic and the community in general.
Response from the owner:Thank you for sharing your experience with Travis! We're glad to hear your appointment went well and you felt cared for. Travis is a key part of our team and community!

Can't say enough good things. Everyone, therapists and admin, are just the best friendliest people. I'm an older lady and was having balance issues, making me a fall risk. The therapists have helped me so much, improving my general strength and challenging me to keep my balance for example when standing on one foot with my eyes closed! Highly recommend.

The staff are all very friendly and caring. I've worked with Elaine the most, and although I'm not the most compliant patient, she has taught me a lot. Everyone works together amazingly. I would definitely recommend them.
Response from the owner:Thank you for coming to TTN. We appreciate you.
They listen to me. Recovering from surgery and they're awesome. Just enough stretching and therapy to be productive and help healing without making pain worse.
Response from the owner:Thank you. We work hard to listen to learn.
I was an attendee at TTN (Chesapeake) from FEB 2021 - JUN 2021 and I enjoyed every moment of it. Before attending TTN I briefly participated in a physical therapy program at Naval Medical Center Portsmouth that was.... lackluster... at best. However, at TTN (Chesapeake) I received/participated in an incredible amount of knowledge, physical therapy and care. I learned everything and -anything- necessary to maintaining a healthy lumbar spine. I want to give a -MASSIVE- shoutout to the staff: "Can't plank as long as I can" Allison, "Macho Papi" Paul, "Naughty" Nadia, "Be-EZ" Jay and the "Sweet-heart duo, low key Mother material vibes" Lauren and Elaine. I felt like a part of the family here and will never forget my teachings. Thank you for the support and assistance with my chronic back problems!

Much love,

-Eye Candy

Been working with the Therapy Network for two years. Elaine, Andrea, Paul, Pam and the rest of the staff are fantastic. My quality of life with my back issues has been so much better and i would not think of another place to go. I would highly recommend this place to anyone !!!
Response from the owner:We appreciate you taking time to leave a review
I was referred here for physical therapy for rehabilitating an old ankle injury. Andrea and the staff are very nice. The place is always jam packed making it tough to schedule sometimes but we're usually able to work something out, and they do work with the length of sometimes I really need to be somewhere and am pressed for time (otherwise the whole process can take awhile). I get dry needling and a few other exercises here and have found both of those very helpful over time for this injury. The staff are so encouraging and supportive, very much like cheerleaders. While I'll be glad when my therapy is over so I can get back to normal life, I'm glad to have this set of people to work with for the process.
Response from the owner:thank you
